Female moths find a source of food at the right temperature with enough moisture. They lay their eggs and the larvae devour their way through clothes, fabrics, curtains and carpets. Once they become an adult moth they eat very little and their primary focus is to reproduce. (apparently adult moths don’t even have a mouth!)Clothes Moth Facts
The Common Webbing Clothes Moth (Tineola bisselliella) is a common household textile pest which lives on a protein called keratin, a substance found in natural fibres such as wool, cashmere, silk, furs and animal hides. It is the moth larvae which causes damage to clothing, munching their way through fabrics, causing irreparable and often costly damage.
Clothes moth infestations
Clothes moth infestations are becoming increasingly common, especially in affluent areas, and while clothes moths used to be active primarily during the warmer spring and summer months, with homes now having better heating and insulation, they are fast becoming a year-round problem. It is always advisable to act at the first sign of moth infestation before numbers can increase and cause more extensive damage to expensive clothing.
Acana is the No 1 Moth brand, providing a complete moth solution. The active ingredient used in their products (transfluthrin) is harmless to humans and will only affect cold-blooded creatures.
